How Weather Can Affect Your Battery Life

Vehicle batteries are affected by both hot and cold extreme temperatures. These extremes will drain the life of your battery. It's important to know the strength of your battery before the seasonal change, as weak or old batteries likely won't make it through the changes.

Heat causes the chemical reactions in your vehicle to accelerate causing the battery fluid to evaporate faster than in moderate temperatures. The more battery fluid your battery loses, the weaker it gets. It's estimated that every 15 degrees over 70 causes accelerated fluid loss. In addition, keeping your air conditioning running at max as you start your vehicle will cause your battery to work even harder.

Keep the terminals of your battery clean, and keeping your car cool are keys to longer battery life. If you need a battery test, or need a completely new battery, bring it by Classic Mazda for a full service experience.
